Exciting News!
Elizabeth and I had a terrific weekend touring South Georgia speaking to supporters about turning Georgia blue in 2010. You will hear more about that tomorrow but today I want to let you know about some exciting news!
We received the endorsement of the Thomasville-Times Enterprise over the weekend, and they write: "Georgia is in desperate need of a proven leader, and we think David Poythress is the best of the Democrats’ lot. He has a record of success in a variety of jobs in the private sector, the public sector and the military."
This is the first print-media endorsement of the campaign, and I am very excited with the support that our campaign is receiving. We are now two weeks away from the primary and things are really getting fired up!
You may recall last week I received the endorsement of SWGAPolitics.com, a blog based out of Lee County in Southwest Georgia. While I may not always agree policy-wise with the owner of this blog, I've met Jeff several times on the campaign trail and had good interactions with him. He says, "(David Poythress) has also been the single Governor candidate most visible in Southwest Georgia, and that means quite a bit to us as well. He is a true man of honor and integrity in our dealings with him, and we look forward to seeing more from him."
Last week as well the Georgia Education Alliances' announced I had won their online preference poll for Governor with a commanding 29% of the vote. My closest competitor among the 15 candidates in the poll was Nathan Deal at 17%. Roy Barnes finished a distant 5th with only 8% of the vote, behind another Democrat and the Libertarian candidate.
Our outreach to all of Georgia, including swing voters and independents will pay off in November. I am the only Democratic candidate who can pull together that broad coalition of people who want a Governor who will talk straight with them, and not spend time back peddling over past failures or making extravagant promiseswithout one shread of proof of how to pay for them.
The Republican Governor's Association is licking its chops, getting ready to drop loads of outside money into Georgia to assure the continuation of the Republican regime in Georgia. The only way we can keep the RGA and Karl Rove away from Georgia is to nominate a candidate who doesn't carry the baggage of a failed administration, and who can reach out to those swing voters who don't just focus on the partisan rhetoric but want real common-sense solutions for Georgia.
There are only 14 days until the Democratic Primary election. Lets do this!
All the best,
David Poythress
PS - There's still time to vote early, so please go vote for me today!
