Poythress criticizes Perdue’s closure of GBI Crime Labs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Atlanta, GA
General David Poythress, Democratic candidate for Governor, today sharply criticized Governor Perdue’s decision to close the GBI crime labs at Moultrie and Columbus. “Public safety is the most important duty of government, and I know from personal experience it is almost impossible to prosecute any criminal case without modern crime lab support,” Poythress said.
Poythress noted that as a military prosecutor in Vietnam he had seen too many cases – especially drug cases – dismissed or reduced to lesser offenses because of slow and inadequate crime lab support.
Poythress concluded, “As Governor, I will work to restore funding to our crime labs and see to it that we fully support our law enforcement community.”
