General David Poythress on the Issues
Jobs/Economy ★ Education ★ Transportation ★ Water
For the past 16 months, Elizabeth and I have criss-crossed the state listening to Georgians from every walk of life -- veterans, educators, owners of small businesses, those struggling to find a job, farmers, students, community activists, faith leaders, law enforcement personnel, state retirees and seniors.
What I am hearing from every corner of the state is that Georgians are looking for a leader they can trust to find commonsense solutions to our critical challenges and someone who can turn plans into action. As your Governor, I will do just that -- work collaboratively and diligently to transform public education, to solve our water and transportation crises and to move our economy forward again.
Jobs/Economy
To get our economy back on track, we must have a Governor who will take action to find solutions to our infrastructure problems and the vision to pursue the jobs of the future. As your Governor, I will provide the leadership and smart economic development incentives to recruit entire industries rather than chasing one company at a time. By being wise stewards of our resources and promoting the assets we have across the state, we can create the jobs we need to move our economy forward again.
Education
My comprehensive plan to create a 21st century educational system for Georgia will stop cutting education funding for our public schools, protect the institutions that make public education work, empower our educators and provide cutting-edge educational technology and innovative new programs to fully engage our students.
Transportation
As your Governor, I will get to work on immediate infrastructure projects that will improve Georgia's quality of life and provide industry with the routes needed to bring jobs to our state. In addition, I will jump start the intermediate and long range strategic planning process to ultimately produce an extensive system of rail, roads and paths that will provide for the transportation needs of Georgia families and businesses for the next 50-70 years.
Water
Solving our water crisis is a challenge that can no longer be ignored, and I'm the only candidate for Governor proposing a water plan that will not only provide for our short-term water needs but will also set the stage for plentiful water resources that can attract new jobs and industry.
